Most Seoul venues sit on a handful of lines. The Line 2 loop links the Olympic Park cluster, Gocheok, and Hongdae. AREX connects the city to Incheon Airport and the airport-island arenas. Line 4 runs from the center down to Seoul Grand Park and out toward the Incheon side. So the right base is the one that puts your specific venues within one ride, with the airport handled for arrival and departure.
Hongdae / Mapo
Best all-rounder🚇 Line 2 (loop), AREX, Gyeongui-Jungang
The Line 2 loop is the workhorse: it reaches Jamsil and Sports Complex (the Olympic Park cluster) on one side and Sindorim (one stop from Gocheok Sky Dome) on the other, no transfer. AREX runs straight to Incheon Airport and to Geomam, the transfer for the Incheon Asiad / airport-island side.
Best for: Mixed venues across the city plus easy airport runs. Younger, cheaper than central, lots of late food after a show.
Trade-off: Not as polished as central districts; the Line 2 loop is long, so far-side venues are a real ride.
Seoul Station / Myeongdong
Most central + airport-easy🚇 Lines 1 & 4, AREX, KTX
Walk to XSCALA in Myeongdong, Line 1 down to Gocheok Sky Dome, Line 4 to Seoul Grand Park, and AREX straight to Incheon Airport and the airport-island arenas. KTX if a show pulls you out of the city.
Best for: First-time visitors who want to be central, and anyone with early or late flights. Hotel stock at every price.
Trade-off: Priciest of the three, and busiest. Book early on event weekends.
Jamsil / Songpa
Olympic Park cluster🚇 Lines 2, 8 & 9
Walking distance or one stop to the whole Olympic Park venue cluster (KSPO Dome, Olympic Hall, Jamsil Indoor Stadium), and the Line 2 loop carries you to Gocheok and Hongdae. Line 9 is fast to Gangnam and the airport side.
Best for: Trips where most of your shows are at the Olympic Park / Jamsil venues. Calmer, good for families, Lotte World on a free day.
Trade-off: Further east, so central sightseeing and the Incheon venues are a longer haul.
Quick rule of thumb
- Shows spread across the city + flights to juggle → Hongdae/Mapo.
- Want to be central and sightsee between shows → Seoul Station/Myeongdong.
- Most shows at KSPO Dome / Jamsil / Olympic Hall → Jamsil/Songpa.
